In Yoga Kundalini Upanishad, Kundalini is defined as the divine power shines like the stem of a young lotus; like a snake, coiled round upon herself she holds her tail in her mouth and lies resting half asleep as the base of the body.

``Kundalini'' literally means coiling, like a snake. In the classical literature of hatha yoga kundalini is described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. The image of coiling, like a spring, conveys the sense of untapped potential energy. Kundalini can be described as a great reservoir of creative energy at the base of the spine.

Kundalini, the Supreme Force, which is lying dormant in the root chakra (situated just below the ‘kanda’ between the root of the reproductive organ and anus) at the base of the spinal column, in the form of a serpent with 3½ ” (three and a half inch) coils.

After the Kundalini energy opens the second big chakra knot at the heart chakra, Kundalini energy can flow easier toward different parts of the body to do more thorough cleansing in different body layers.

When the Kundalini opens the third and last big chakra knot at the ajna (third eye chakra), called the Rudra, the person is only one step away from getting the crown chakra open. As the crown chakra opens, one will be able to achieve self realization, cosmic realization.

Kundalini movement

Kundalini can be classified into three parts: the core, the fire, and the energy. As in the figure, the core of the Kundalini is the Kundalini itself. The core of the Kundalini is the last part that moves. It can only move after the sushumna is open quite wide and is clean. The cleansing is actually done by the fire of the Kundalini.

The fire is released/ uncoiled energy from the Kundalini. Released energy from the Kundalini looks like fire and it cleanses by burning. The fire will burn all negativities and blockages in the energy body to cleanse your energy body. Burnt negativity and blockages are brought up and out from the body. If the crown chakra is already open, the energy will flow out through the crown chakra.

Awakening of Kundalini

Kundalini may be awakened through Kundalini yoga, pranayama, meditation etc. The most simplest and effective method of awakening Kundalini is through Reiki attunement from a suitable Reiki Master. After awakening this Kundalini Shakti, you have to take this Supreme Power upward, through the Sushumna Nadi by Yogic method, from Muladhara Chakra (Root)  to the crown of the head (Sahasrara). Then you will get various Yogic powers. Nadis or channels are the Astral tubes made up of astral matter that carry psychic currents. Since they are made up of subtle matter, they are not visible to the naked physical eye. It is through these Nadis that the vital force or Pranic current flows in the body.

These Yoga Nadis are not the ordinary nerves, arteries and veins. Our body is filled with innumerable Nadis. There are about 3,50,000 Nadis in the body.

When the Kundalini ascends one Chakra or Yogic centre, the Yogi also ascends one step or rung upward in the Yogic ladder; one more page, the next page, he reads in the divine book; the more the Kundalini travels upwards, the Yogi also advances towards the goal or spiritual perfection in relation to it.

When the Kundalini reaches the sixth centre or the Ajna Chakra, the Yogi gets the vision of Personal God or Saguna Brahman, and when the serpent-power reaches the last, the top centre, or Sahasrara Chakra, or the Thousand-petalled lotus, the Yogi loses his individuality in the ocean of Sat-Chit-Ananda or the Existence-Knowledge-Bliss Absolute and becomes one with the Lord or Supreme Soul. He is no longer an ordinary man, not even a simple Yogi, but a fully illumined sage, having conquered the eternal and unlimited divine kingdom, a hero having won the battle against illusion, a Mukta or liberated one having crossed the ocean of ignorance or the transmigratory existence, and a superman having the authority and capacity to save the other struggling souls of the relative world.

How do you know Kundalini is awakened ?

The energy moving along your sushumna can be another type of chi. For example, if you are channeling energy or drawing some Reiki symbols at the sushumna, you will feel some energy movement at your sushumna. If you draw the symbols or channel energy to the chakras along the sushumna, the sensation will last longer as you have stimulated the chakra and there will be a lot of activity around that area. Heat from the lower part of your body can also be caused by the activity of one of your chakras, or your Kundalini may be stimulated, but not awakened yet.

When you try to check the energy on top of your head, be aware that your crown chakra is located there. So, when you check the energy on the top of your head, you will feel the energy of the crown chakra.

How can you know whether the energy you are feeling or sensing is Kundalini? If your Kundalini is really awakened and the whole sushumna is already opened, you should be able to feel the energy around 1,5 - 2 meters (4,5 - 6 feet) above your head and you can feel that this energy sprays from the top of your head. If you make a cutting movement across the energy fountain, you can feel that you are cutting an upward flowing current. The best and most accurate way of checking your Kundalini is, of course, by using your Inner Heart. Only your Inner Heart knows the real truth. By using your Inner Heart, you will never get lost on your spiritual path.

Kundalini and healing

Kundalini is the source of all healing. All mental, emotional, physical and spiritual healing comes from her rising up the spine.  An awakening Kundalini can cause life-threatening diseases to miraculously disappear over night!  People who have spontaneously been healed from terminal diseases have been labeled as "the placebo effect" of certain sugar pills, are all from the radical healing powers of their Kundalini rising.  Your Kundalini is the core life force in your body responsible for your whole healed state of being.

The most amazing benefit discovered from awakening the Kundalini is the profound experiences of healing on the body and the mind.  She (Kundalini) opens an energetic channel through each Chakra from your infinite source, which constantly fills your body with waves of bliss.  No disease, negative feelings, poor attitude, or even undesirable situations will ever happen for you.  Nothing that is even remotely painful that was hidden or stuck in your body has a chance of survival with her present.  She brings to you the ultimate experience of Life, letting you experience yourself as the greatest height and depth of God's being surrounded by an infinite eternal river of bliss.
